Road Warriors Rule at Lagos City Marathon 2016

About this time a year ago, a group of fitness conscious people signed up to be a part of the Lagos City Marathon sponsored by Access Bank Plc Nigeria. Well I could as well call them a family, because the closeness and care they shared was remarkable. The fun & creative part to them was also obvious with their neon coloured branded tops having each person’s unique names on them.  I’m sure they would have loved to have a winner from their team, but I saw more the desire if anything to have each one reach the finish line breaking their own personal records.

The race kicked off at about 7.30am from the Onikan Stadium Surulere, with the finish line at the Eko Atlantic, Victoria Island. It was well subscribed to, with over 25 elite athletes from 8 countries. The 40+Km race was marked with milestone stations and volunteers handing out water and wet sponges.  Kenyan, Abraham Kiptum won the race (2hrs 16mins 21 secs) but we had lots of finishers from the Road Warriors team which was very impressive. It was not an easy one to cover but with a great backup team of my best friend Temitope and Photographer friend, Olajumoke Ogunnaike, we captured enough shots to keep the event memorable for years to come. Here are just a few of those lovely moments…
